Ingredients

Banana Bread Brownies

  • 3 large overripe bananas mashed
  • ½ cup melted butter or coconut oil
  • ¾ cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract pure
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour or gluten-free flour blend
  • cup unsweetened cocoa powder Dutch-process preferred
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon enhances banana flavor
  • ½ cup chocolate chips semi-sweet or dark
  • ¼ cup chopped walnuts optional

Optional Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 4 oz cream cheese softened
  • 2 tablespoon butter softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x9-inch pan with parchment paper. Mash the bananas in a large mixing bowl.
  • Add melted butter, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla to the mashed bananas. Mix well.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  • Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a rubber spatula. Stir in chocolate chips and walnuts if using.
  • Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan. Bake for 28–32 minutes or until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs. Cool completely on a wire rack before cutting.

Notes

These brownies taste great on their own, but feel free to add the optional cream cheese frosting for an extra treat!
