Ingredients

the Donuts:

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • teaspoon active dry yeast 1 packet
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk warmed to 110°F
  • cup unsalted butter melted
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying

the Chocolate Frosting:

  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoon unsalted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

Make the Dough:

  • Mix flour, sugar, yeast, and salt
  • Combine warm milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla
  • Mix wet into dry ingredients until dough forms
  • Knead 8-10 minutes until smooth
  • Let rise 1 hour or until doubled

Shape:

  • Roll dough to ½-inch thickness
  • Cut with donut cutter
  • Let rise 30 minutes

Fry:

  • Heat oil to 350°F
  • Fry 1-2 minutes per side
  • Drain on paper towels
  • Cool completely

Make Frosting:

  • Sift powdered sugar and cocoa
  • Whisk in milk, butter, vanilla, and salt
  • Adjust consistency if needed

Finish:

  • Dip cooled donuts in frosting
  • Let set 15-20 minutes
