  • 2 large eggs Room temperature
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot coffee Enhances chocolate flavor
  • ½ cup sour cream Adds moisture

the Chocolate Frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar Sifted
  • ¾ cup dark cocoa powder Softened
  • ¼ cup heavy cream Adjust for consistency
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt Enhances flavor
  • 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate melted and cooled

Instructions

the Cake:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch cake pans.
  • Mix dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add wet ingredients: eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Mix until combined.
  • Stir in hot coffee and sour cream until smooth.
  • Divide batter between pans. Bake 30-35 minutes.
  • Cool in pans 10 minutes, then remove to wire racks.

the Frosting:

  • Beat butter until creamy.
  • Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder.
  • Mix in cream and vanilla.
  • Beat until fluffy. Fold in melted chocolate.
