Ingredients

For the Smashburger

  • 1 lb ground chuck (80/20) for juicy patties
  • 1 tablespoon butter divided
  • 0.5 medium onion thinly sliced
  • 2 slices American or cheddar cheese your choice
  • 2 large flour tortillas soft and fresh
  • salt and black pepper to taste

For the Toppings

  • 4 slices dill pickles adds tangy crunch
  • 2 slices tomato optional
  • 2 slices crispy bacon optional
  • 2 leaves lettuce optional for serving

For the Smash Sauce

  • 3 tablespoon mayonnaise base of sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup adds sweetness
  • 0.5 teaspoon mustard for tang
  • 0.25 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce depth of flavor

Instructions

  • Mix mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce to make the smash sauce.
  • Caramelize onions in butter over medium heat for 5–7 minutes; set aside.
  • Form thin beef patties, season with salt and pepper, and smash in a hot skillet until crispy on both sides.
  • Top patties with cheese; let it melt slightly.
  • Layer tortilla with sauce, patty, onions, pickles, and toppings; top with a second tortilla.
  • Toast both sides in the skillet until golden and crispy.
  • Slice and serve hot with extra smash sauce for dipping.
