Ingredients

Cake Base

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg

Apple Filling

  • 3 medium Granny Smith apples peeled and diced
  • 2 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Crumb Topping

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar packed
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter cold, cubed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • salt pinch

Instructions

  • Heat oven to 350°F (175°C), grease and line a 9x13 pan.
  • Sauté diced apples with butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice until softened. Cool completely.
  • Cream butter and sugar, add eggs and vanilla. Alternate flour mixture with milk until combined. Fold in apples.
  • Mix flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
  • Spread batter in pan, sprinkle crumb topping evenly.
  • Bake 45–50 minutes until toothpick comes out with moist crumbs. Cool 20 minutes before slicing.
